Shakespeare Theatre Company
Over the past quarter of a century, the Shakespeare Theatre Company has dedicated itself to becoming the nation's premier classic theatre. By focusing on works with profound themes, complex characters and heightened language written by Shakespeare, his contemporaries and those playwrights he influenced, STC’s artistic mission is unique among regional theatres: to bring to vibrant life groundbreaking, thought-provoking and eminently accessible classic theatre in a uniquely American style. Considered a “critical and popular success” (The New York Times) for its reinterpretations of Shakespeare's plays, the Shakespeare Theatre Company has also illuminated classical texts by Euripides and Ben Jonson, as well as modern masterpieces by George Bernard Shaw, Oscar Wilde, Eugene O'Neill, Henrik Ibsen and Tennessee Williams. These familiar and unfamiliar works emerge as extraordinary creations when interpreted by the theatre's acclaimed resident acting company and renowned guest artists including Elizabeth Ashley, Avery Brooks, Hal Holbrook Stacy Keach, Marsha Mason, Patrick Stewart and Richard Thomas.
Looking to get more involved? STC invites local young professionals to be a part of the Young Professionals Consortium. Members meet with each other and STC staff once a month to discuss ways to reach out to young professionals and plan YPC events. These events correspond to and supplement the plays in STC’s production season and should help to develop a fuller understanding of the shows for young professionals in a fun and social setting.
